STEP, MAT and TMUA Courses

MEI and the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme run various courses to support students' mathematics.

The Sixth Term Entry Papers (STEP) is a mathematics examination that assesses students' deeper problem-solving skills. It will be of interest to any student who enjoys problem-solving and/or who is considering progressing to a maths-rich degree course or career. Some universities encourage or require students to sit STEP examinations as part of their admissions process. MEI offers live online courses to support students' preparation for both of these examinations.

In early October 2020, the Admissions Testing Service announced that from 2021, STEP 1 will no longer exist. STEP 2 and STEP 3 will continue to be offered and form part of the offer for Mathematics at Cambridge University.

MEI also offers a live online course for students applying for Oxford degree courses in Mathematics, Mathematics & Statistics or Mathematics & Philosophy or to Imperial College London for any of its undergraduate Mathematics courses who are required to take the Mathematics Admissions Test (MAT).

Durham University and Lancaster University reduce their standard offer for students who sit the Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA). MEI offers a live online course for students who wish to sit the TMUA to assist in their applications for Durham, Lancaster and Warwick Universities.
